Mad River Chorale presents its spring concert, ‘Luminous Night of the Soul’, in two performances next weekend, May 3-4, in Waitsfield and Waterbury.
Saturday’s concert is at 7:30 p.m. at the Waitsfield UCC Church/White Meeting House; Sunday’s concert is at 4 p.m. at the Waterbury Congregational Church.
The concert title is named for one of the pieces on the concert program by contemporary composer Ola Gjeilo.
Artistic Director Mary Jane Austin has designed the program to contemplate night and light with movements of Rachmaninoff’s “All Night Vigil,” Beethoven’s “Elegiac Song,” the title piece and Gjeilo’s “Dark Night of the Soul,” as well as a well-loved piece by Morten Lauridsen, “Sure on This Shining Night.”
The 45-person chorale (with singers from local communities) will be accompanied by a string quartet and Alison Cerutti on piano.
Purchase tickets online or at the door: $20, general admission; $15 for seniors and students; ages 11 and under are free. More information online at madriverchorale.org or call 802-496-4781.
