Vermont Philharmonic’s summer pops concerts set for Duxbury and North Hero

The Vermont Philharmonic will perform its annual outdoor Summer Pops Concerts in Duxbury and North Hero on Aug. 13 and Sept. 2.
The first concert will be held on the lawn at Moose Meadow Lodge in Duxbury on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. The second performance will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept.2, on grounds at Shore Acres Inn in North Hero overlooking Lake Champlain.
Led by Music Director Lou Kosma, the orchestra will present a program with selections from musicals such as “The King and I” and “Rocky Broadway,” films and orchestral classics such as “Hungarian March” from Hector Berlioz’s “The Damnation of Faust.”
The program will also feature two works by young Vermont composers, Chase Ehrlich’s “Spirit of the Sky” and Callum Robechek’s “And in a Moment” along with audience favorites like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”
For the Duxbury concert, the grounds at Moose Meadow Lodge at 607 Crossett Hill will open at 3 p.m. for picnicking. Shore Acres Inn is at 237 Shore Acres Drive in North Hero. Alcoholic beverages will be available for sale by Shore Acres Inn. Bringing your own alcohol is prohibited.

Vermont’s oldest community orchestra, the Vermont Philharmonic is in its 64th season. It’s composed of professional and amateur musicians from throughout Vermont and was founded in 1959 by Jon Borowicz, emeritus professor of music at Norwich University. Since 1993, the Philharmonic’s home base has been the Barre Opera House. Lou Kosma has been its music director since 1999.
