Little League plans parade down Main Street on Saturday

Volunteers with the Clyde Whittemore Little League invite the public to check out Saturday’s season kick-off parade from Dac Rowe Park down Main Street starting at 1 p.m.
And for those who can’t stop to watch, they have a safety message particularly given that the event will tie up Main Street for a short time: “It takes a lot of effort, time and support to put together events where people and traffic are in the same location.”
That’s from Scott Culver, president of the Clyde Whittemore Little League that’s hosting the parade. Culver has been coordinating for weeks with town officials including the Waterbury Select Board, Waterbury Fire Department, town Recreation and Highway departments. In addition, Vermont State Police will assist by providing a lead car and E&S Transport will provide two flatbed wreckers at the rear of the parade with lights.
Little League players, parents and friends will take part and the public is invited to join the celebration to start the 2023 little league season.
The parade kicks off from Dac Rowe Park at 1 p.m. and it will end at Park Row Drive. Volunteers will direct traffic which will involve several temporary closures to key streets. Main Street will be closed to traffic for the duration of the parade in the section of the route.
Detours will be provided by using Union Street, Railroad Street, and Pilgrim Park Roads so motorists may bypass Main Street. Other side streets onto Main Street will be re-opened as the parade passes to minimize back-ups and allow for open access to emergency services should they need to get through, Culver said. Each member of the traffic control team will provide information at their post.
The parade is expected to take about an hour.
