A unique fundraiser appealing to local runners is coming together to support the Waterbury Area Food Shelf next weekend.

Local business owner Corey Barrett from Good Ink Tattoo is organizing a Waterbury Area Trail Running Camp for Aug. 6-8. The free trail running clinic asks participants to make a donation of their choice to the food shelf. It’s open to anyone of all abilities ages 18 and up, Barrett said.

The clinic will start at 8 a.m. each day and end around lunchtime and it will take participants to a variety of different terrain between Waterbury and Stowe. Depending on abilities and desires, it may divide to go in multiple directions on the same morning, he said.

“Being the first year doing this there will be a lot of flexibility. Each morning we will meet for coffee and snacks before going out. Weather permitting, we can go swimming at one of many local swim holes post run,” Barrett said.

Participants can sign up for all three days or fewer, depending on their availability. Barrett said the main goal is to benefit those in need in the community by supporting the food shelf and runners should get something out of it, too. “This will be a wonderful opportunity to promote health and make new friendships,” he said.
