After 18 months of COVID-19-imposed silence, the Vermont Philharmonic has announced it will return for its 63rd season with its annual Summer Pops Concert on the lawn at Moose Meadow Lodge in Duxbury on Aug. 8.
Led by conductor Lou Kosma, the program for the 4 p.m. performance will highlight outstanding soloists from the orchestra.
Concertmaster violinist Letitia Quante will play the “Meditation” from Massenet’s Thais. Clarinetist Margaret Roddy will play the haunting larghetto from Mozart’s Quintet in A. James Duncan will perform the “Trumpeter’s Lullaby” by pops favorite Leroy Anderson, and Andrea Brightenback will play “Gabriel’s Oboe,” Ennio Morricone’s soaring theme from the film The Mission.
The orchestra will entertain the audience with selections from the hit musical Hamilton and perennial favorite South Pacific. Also on the program: Fats Waller’s “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and George M. Cohan’s “Give My Regards to Broadway!” The concert will open with Sousa’s “El Capitan” march, and close with a rousing “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Moose Meadow Lodge, 607 Crossett Hill Road, will open for picnicking at 3 p.m. With limited parking carpooling is strongly encouraged. Tickets are available at the gate or online at vermontphilharmonic.com. Tickets: $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, students are $5, and $35 for a family.
Rain location is Brookside (formerly Thatcher Brook) Primary School in Waterbury.
