This Friday, June 30, is library Director Cindy Weber’s last day as she heads to retirement. A celebration in her honor is planned for Wednesday, June 28, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the library.

Weber has been the director of the Stowe Free Library for 11 years. She has successfully guided the library through some unique challenges over the years including the loss of the library’s entire adult collection due to the library flooding. That event also involved supervising the resulting library reconstruction and temporary relocation.

Weber also led the library during the COVID-19 pandemic which involved coming up with creative ways to allow continued use of the library during that time.

The library trustees and members of the Friends of the Stowe Free Library as well as town staff including Town Manager Charles Safford will host the celebration honoring Weber. The public is invited including patrons from the community who have known Weber over the years.

For the first three weeks in July, the Friends of the Stowe Free Library hold their 38th annual book sale with a special free community event planned for Saturday, July 8, that adds live music, ice cream and games to the book-perusing.

Multiple community groups will collaborate on the party from 1 to 3 p.m. which will include a live performance by the Maple Run Band, ice cream by Kingdom Creamery of Vermont and yard games. Maple Run Band’s sound is Americana, running the gamut from roots rock and alt-country to 70s rock,  jam-band and indie, retro alongside country-folk and folk-rock. Find them online at maplerunband.com.

Bring a blanket or a chair and a picnic to enjoy the tunes and games and browse the sale that supports the Friends of the Stowe Free Library. The Stowe Historical Society, Stowe Land Trust, The Current, and Spruce Peak Arts will provide the free activities; ice cream is for sale.

The book sale runs July 1-22, dawn to dusk set up outside at the library and staffed most days 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Proceeds go to the Friends of Stowe Free Library, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that works to support library resources, activities and programs. More information: StoweLibrary.org.
