The Waterbury Rotary Club has two important updates to share with the community: its popular Pie for Breakfast fundraiser returns on Feb. 4, and Not Quite Independence Day is set for June 24 with the theme “Peace, Love and the 4th of July.”

The club next is looking for community members to submit design suggestions for t-shirts to illustrate the NQID theme.

Pie for Breakfast

After a COVID-19 pandemic hiatus, the Rotary’s annual Pie for Breakfast fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the American Legion, at 16 Stowe St.

There will be pies, juice and coffee, and a 50/50 raffle. Pies are supplied by Rotary Club members with careful planning put into ensuring a variety of sweet and savory choices.

Admission is $10 for everyone over age 12. Those 12 and under are free; cash only. All proceeds will support Waterbury Rotary programs.

Peace, Love & the 4th of July

Out of 40 entries, Rotarians have chosen “Peace, Love & the 4th of July” as the winner in the community contest to decide the theme for this year’s Not Quite Independence Day celebration.

The winning entry was from Lisa Sholk, who will receive a t-shirt and be invited to sit in the parade review stand to help choose the parade float that best represents the NQID theme, club officials announced.

The next step is to design the NQID t-shirts. Waterbury Rotary is now looking for community submissions for a t-shirt design to illustrate “Peace, Love & 4th of July.”

Entries will be accepted through 6 p.m. on Feb. 13 and a winner will be chosen on Feb. 14. To submit an idea, please send an email to rotaryclubwaterbury@gmail.com with your name, contact information, and images of your design.

In the meantime, save the date – June 24 – for NQID with its usual events: parade, concert, vendors in the park, fireworks, and more. Organizers will share schedule information and more details later in the spring.
