Registration has opened for the annual Leaf Peepers Half Marathon and 5K set for Oct. 6.

Started in 1984, the popular fall ritual attracts hundreds of runners from around Vermont and the region. With the early-October date, organizers say the event is “timed for optimal fall scenery.”

The race course is in Waterbury and Duxbury with the start and finish taking place at the State Office Complex horseshoe green in downtown Waterbury.

Presented by Central Vermont Runners, the two race options are a 13.1-mile half marathon starting at 9 a.m. (entry fee: $65) and a 5K starting at 9:15 a.m. (entry fee $45).

The deadline to register online is 5 p.m. on Oct. 4 and a total of 800 runners will be accepted, according to the registration website. As of Sept. 22, a total of 334 marathon runners were registered and 107 runners for the 5K had signed up.

More information and registration is online at leafpeepershalfmarathon.org.
