Zenbarn’s summer soccer team is having a barnburner season, advancing to the final game set for Sunday at 10 a.m. at Dac Rowe Park in downtown Waterbury.

The team will take on Upper Valley for the 2022 title in the Central Vermont Soccer League.

Zenbarn (8-1-1) defeated Chelsea (6-1-3) on penalties last week after a 2-2 deadlock. Upper Valley (4-6) upset Salt Hill (8-2) with a last-minute goal for the win in the final minutes of their semi-final match as well.

The league has been going strong for some five decades and this summer, 10 teams from around the region took part including groups from Cabot, Chelsea, Randolph, Craftsbury, Williamstown, Barre, Hardwick and West Lebanon/Hanover.

Players range in age from 18 to 60 and teams are mostly men, although not exclusively. Games are full field, 11 v. 11, 90 minutes with referees.

“The games are extremely competitive but friendly!” said Noah Derman, Zenbarn team manager.

Zenbarn co-owner and soccer player Noah Fishman attests to the stakes and the fun: “For many of us, this could be our biggest life achievement so far if we win.”
