A small but hardy group of about two dozen gathered after dark on Sunday, Dec. 10, at Rusty Parker Memorial Park to light a new 10-foot-tall menorah in celebration of Chanukah.

Rabbi Baruch Simon, his wife Sara and their family, leaders of Chabad of Stowe and Waterbury, organized the event. This was the second year to have a public menorah lighting ceremony at the park with a new display lit with color-changing LED lights that Simon constructed along with Eric Friedman.

The steady rain didn’t dampen the spirit to bring more light to the park in honor of the eight-day Jewish holiday. Under a pop-up tent they set up tables with latkes and jelly donuts and gift bags for attendees packed with candles, small menorah ornaments, dreidels, and information about the holiday.

Known as the Festival of Lights, Chanukah ends this Friday.
