LETTER: Ashley Woods a second write-in for Warren school board seat

Feb. 22, 2022

Dear HUUSD community,
I am running as a write-in candidate in Warren for the Harwood Unified Union School District School Board. I would like the chance to serve on the board because I believe we are at a critical moment for the district. There will be many new board members, and a new, experienced, and quite celebrated superintendent coming in. It is a new beginning.

I grew up in Warren and went to Warren School and Harwood. I have three kids who also went to our schools, the youngest is currently a sophomore at Harwood. I was director of the Warren After School Program at the Warren School for 10 years. I have had firsthand experience with how great our schools can be. My son, now 23, had a rare and complicated dyslexia that was identified in preschool by special educators at Warren, who started early intervention work with him that carried on through middle school. The options that already existed in the high school for alternative pathways for nontraditional learners, like HCLC, gave him every opportunity to succeed, which he did. The staff and teachers that made it happen were creative, understanding and always willing to go the extra mile to help him succeed.

I am ready for this task. I am a good communicator and a good listener. I believe great things happen when we are able to set a tone where people can speak freely. Working together through research, conversation and debate to figure out how to move forward with the current and future challenges.

I have served on the Mad River Valley Community Fund for eight years, the experience has helped me to understand board collaboration, as well as giving me a deeper understanding of our communities’ needs, especially those of our struggling working class.

I want to help enhance this environment where every student has a chance to flourish. It requires not only resources within our schools but also partnership building within our  communities. I feel I have the relevant experience to help make that happen.

Sincerely,

Ashley Woods
