LETTER: Why I Support Alyssa Johnson, Roger Clapp for Select Board

Feb. 24, 2022

To the community:

I am very proud to support Alyssa Johnson and write-in candidate Roger Clapp in the race for two one-year seats on the Waterbury Select Board. Alyssa and Roger both possess many valuable leadership skills and an extensive track record as local volunteers, and both have already made significant contributions to our Waterbury community.  We would be very fortunate to have them on the Waterbury Select Board.

Alyssa studied community development at UVM and spent three years working for Revitalizing Waterbury helping encourage local business development. Now, at the Vermont Council for Rural Development, she works all over the state helping people build great communities. Among other volunteer roles, she currently serves on the Waterbury Planning Commission.  With Alyssa on the Select Board, we will have a knowledgeable community development professional who is also a passionate advocate for families, local businesses, and our community.

Roger Clapp has been a local resident for many years and through his work, family life, and volunteer activities, has developed a strong rapport with business owners and neighbors. Roger is Associate Director of Program & Fund Development at PH International in Waitsfield. He is the current president of Waterbury Winterfest, and former executive director of the Vermont Chapter of March of Dimes, Deputy Commissioner of Agricultural Development in Vermont, and co-founder of the Vermont Fresh Network. He will bring a very wide range of knowledge and experience to the Select Board.

Please make your voice heard on Town Meeting Day, Tuesday, March 1.  Those looking to vote before then may visit the town clerk’s office during regular business hours. On election day, March 1, in Waterbury, Brookside Primary School’s gym will be the polling place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please make your voice heard and vote!
