UPDATE:  10 p.m. Sunday

Vermont State Police released an update on the investigation into the shooting in Waterbury on Saturday night. They identified the victim who was released from the hospital. No arrests have been made and the suspects remain at large, but police say they do not believe there is any threat to the general public.

“The victim of the Waterbury shooting is identified as James Eggleston, 20, of Hudson Falls, New York. He was treated for a gunshot wound at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington and subsequently discharged,” according to a state police press release.

The location of the shooting incident was also revised from initial information. Police now say it took place “behind the Gulf Station at 1 North Main Street,” referring to the Champlain Farms gas station and convenience store at the intersection of Main and Stowe streets.

So far, no arrests have been made and police have not released any detailed descriptions of the shooter or those individuals with the shooter.

“Three suspects, including the individual who shot the victim, were last seen leaving the area on foot. All three suspects are described as young white men; no further description is available,” police said. “The other two people in the car with Eggleston were uninjured. Detectives believe the shooting was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the community.”

The investigation is continuing and involves detectives from the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and troopers from the Field Force Division, police said.

Investigators repeat their request to the public that anyone with information that could assist with the investigation should contact the Vermont State Police Berlin barracks at 802-229-9191, or leave an anonymous tip online at vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit

UPDATE: 3:45 p.m. with information on the Woodbury incident.

Vermont State Police are investigating a shooting in downtown Waterbury Saturday night that sent a man to the hospital.

No one involved in the incident so far has been identified, and no arrests have been made, according to police. The adult man who was injured was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington where the extent of his injury and condition are not known at this time, police said.

According to a press release from state police spokesman Adam Silverman, the incident happened in a parking area near 22 North Main Street around 10:45 p.m. The address is the southwest corner of the Main Street intersection with Winooski Street.

The police account so far states: “Three people reportedly were in a parked car when unknown individuals approached the vehicle on foot, at which time one of them struck the driver, an adult man, over the head with a gun, and then shot the driver in the upper torso.”

The assailants then fled the area, apparently on foot, according to police.

Silverman said that the initial investigation indicates that this was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the general public.

Woodbury: Man held in separate shooting incident

State police issued information about the incident along with an account of a separate and unrelated shooting Saturday night in the town of Woodbury around 10 p.m. where a man was shot in the leg.

That happened at a residence on Dog Pond Road in Woodbury, police said, and the preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting arose from a dispute among a group of people who knew one another.

In an update late Sunday morning, police said that Brian McAndrew, 38, of Woodbury, is being held without bail at Northeast Regional Correctional Facility in St. Johnsbury. He is scheduled to appear in Washington County Superior Court for an arraignment on Monday to face charges of attempted second-degree murder and first-degree aggravated domestic assault, according to police.

McAndrew will be charged in connection with the shooting of 35-year-old Andrew Brown of Lyndonville at the Woodbury home, police noted.

State police said they responded along with Hardwick Police and Washington County Sheriffs after Brown was shot as he walked to the front door of the home to pick up another individual who claimed McAndrew threatened with a gun earlier in the day.

No one else was injured, police said. Brown was first taken to Central Vermont Medical Center and then transferred to UVM Medical Center with what police described as “serious injuries.”

“McAndrew was subdued by a witness until police arrived,” according to the state police release.

Police said that there was no connection between the two shootings that occurred in Washington County within less than an hour of each other on Saturday.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact the Vermont State Police Berlin barracks at 802-229-9191, or submit an anonymous tip online at vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.

This story will be updated.
