A Waterbury man is facing multiple charges after an incident last weekend at the Waterbury Reservoir boat launch on Blush Hill Road.

According to Vermont State Police Trooper Joseph Szarejko, troopers responded to the popular parking area and entry to the reservoir just before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, after receiving a call about an intoxicated man acting suspiciously near the boat ramp. Police spoke first with two ice fishermen, Szarejko said, one of whom had called police.

The individual in question was identified as Jesse C. Lubold, age 39 of Waterbury, police said. He had a truck parked with a 7-year-old child inside while he was outside the vehicle. “He drove there. He was intoxicated. He could barely carry on a conversation,” Szarejko said. “He was giving the ice fishermen a hard time, yelling and screaming.”

One of the witnesses took Lubold’s keys while they waited for police to arrive. “They were concerned for the child,” Szarejko said. “That was a huge help.”

Lubold and the child were taken to the Middlesex state police barracks where Lubold was issued citations for DUI #2, reckless endangerment, and giving false information to a police officer. Szarejko said Lubold made false statements about his activities as troopers sought to determine the circumstances. Lubold was scheduled to appear in Washington County Superior Court on April 1 to answer to the charges.

Szarejko said the child was unharmed and released to a family member.
