Vermont State Police are investigating burglaries at Crossroads Beverage & Deli in Waterbury and the Richmond Mobil station that both happened in the early morning hours on Sunday.

The incident at the Waterbury store happened at approximately 3:12 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release Monday from Trooper Jacob Fox at the Middlesex barracks.

When troopers arrived, they found a damaged glass door and an open front window. “Numerous unopened packages of cigarettes were also scattered in front of the window, along with a broken bottle of liquor,” Fox wrote.

No cash was in the store overnight, Fox said. Police Monday were in the process of getting images from the store’s security system along with an inventory of items missing. Fox said he expected it would be mostly liquor, cigarettes and e-cigarette pods.

Soon after this incident at 4:35 a.m., state police from the Williston barracks were called to the Richmond Mobile gas station and convenience store near the I-89 exit.

When police arrived at the Richmond site, they found a damaged glass door and front window and numerous unopened packages of cigarettes scattered in front of the broken window. A cash register box was also missing, police said.

Surveillance video from the Richmond store shows two individuals arriving on foot and forcing entry into the store. The time of that burglary was estimated at 3:30 a.m., according to the news release from Williston state police.

“It’s unclear if these two incidents are connected,” Trooper Fox said, adding that he was in touch with investigators in the Richmond case.

Both cases are in the early stages of investigation.  Anyone with information regarding the Waterbury incident should contact the Vermont State Police Middlesex Barracks at 802-229-9191. Tips regarding the Richmond break-in should go to state police in Williston at 802-878-7111.
