A recent car theft on Gregg Hill in Waterbury Center ended with Vermont State Police making two arrests in Williston. Meanwhile this weekend, Friday was a particularly busy day for Vermont State Police in and near Waterbury as troopers responded to multiple incidents on Interstate 89, Vermont Rt. 100 and at Little River State Park.

According to Trooper Ryan Riegler, state police received a report just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, that a vehicle had been stolen on Gregg Hill Road near the pulloff beside the path that leads to Elephant Rock on the Waterbury Reservoir.

The vehicle was an Audi S3 with the owner being a juvenile so police could not list their name, Riegler said.

Troopers said they worked with the victim and were able to locate the missing vehicle 30 miles away in Shaw’s grocery store parking lot at Taft Corners in Williston. Williston Police Department assisted by detaining two individuals found with two vehicles: the Audi stolen in Waterbury and a Dodge that also was stolen. Riegler said he could not share more details due to it being part of an ongoing investigation.

Police arrested 48-year-old Gregory Barreda of Burlington and Jennifer Cepeda, 38, of Colchester. They were taken to the state police barracks in Williston and issued citations to appear in Washington County Superior Court on Sept. 12. Each will face a charge of Operating Without Consent - Aggravated, according to the police report.
