Blush Hill culvert replacement
A project to replace a culvert under Blush Hill Road that town officials thought would get postponed until 2023 will get under way on Thursday morning, Dec. 8.
“Winter hasn’t come,” said Public Works Director Bill Woodruff on Wednesday.
Availability of contractors which stymied the project during the summer and fall has changed now. And, although doing such a project in December poses some challenges, “the pluses outweigh the minuses,” Woodruff said.
The location is in the “dip” on Blush Hill Road near the intersection with Misty Hollow Road. Workers will be starting the project on Thursday morning after 8 a.m. and will work until about dark or 4 p.m., Woodruff said. During construction activity, one lane will remain open for alternating traffic directions, he said.
Having the project under way when traffic to and from the Waterbury Reservoir boat launch has dropped off for the season is one of the advantages of timing the project now, Woodruff noted. Forecasted daytime temperatures for the next several days also look to be relatively mild, he added.
Work is expected to go into next week. Woodruff said that the site will be buttoned up with a layer of temporary asphalt for the winter with the finish layer of pavement to be done next summer.
