Main Street Construction Update | Oct. 9-16

Overall:

  • No construction is planned for Friday afternoon, Oct. 9 or Monday, Oct. 12 due to the holiday.

  • Expect traffic delays and one-way alternating traffic throughout the project.

  • Flaggers and pedestrian crossers are present.

  • Use alternate streets when possible

Between Dac Rowe Park and Stowe Street

  • On the odd-numbered side of North Main Street, expect temporary loss of driveway access for about 7 days when the concrete sidewalks are poured across driveways.  Displaced tenants and visitors may park at the Congregational Church or Municipal Offices at 28 North Main St.

  • On the even-numbered side of North Main, properties will have temporary paved sidewalks for this winter. Paving will be done in the next few weeks.

  • Lower Stowe Street: Concrete sidewalks will be poured beginning at Bidwell Lane, heading to the Main Street intersection beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 13.  Access to properties will be cut off for approximately 2-3 hours while this is occurring. Entries will have a temporary walkway in place over the new sidewalk after the pouring is completed.

  • New granite curbs will continue to be installed through the week along North Main Street.

Between Stowe Street and Park Street

  • Starting Tuesday, Oct. 13, and through the week, concrete sidewalks will be poured where the curbs have been installed from the top of Bank Hill to Foundry Street on the Bargain Boutique side of South Main Street. Properties will lose access for 2-3 hours while this is happening. Temporary walkways will be put in place over the new sidewalks for access after the pouring is completed.

  • On Bank Hill on the McGillicuddy’s side of South Main, temporary paved sidewalks will be done for this winter. Paving will be done in next few weeks.

  • Sidewalks across driveways take approximately 7 days to cure before vehicles may drive across.

  • Walkway and sidewalk cleanup continues including along Bidwell Lane.

  • Driveway apron paving will begin.

  • New lamp posts will continue to be installed.

Park Row to the end of the project

  • Limited driveway apron paving will be done where needed.

  • No significant work through Oct. 16.

Waterbury Roundabout

This is a separate project from Main Street involving the roundabout and the roadways connecting with it. Flaggers will be in place in the work zone.

This week: Work continues during day and night shifts starting at 7 p.m. Monday.

Nighttime work is planned for Monday and Tuesday between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Daytime work is planned for Thursday, Oct. 15 and Friday, Oct. 16, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. There is no scheduled work on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
