Road Work | Week of Oct. 5-9
October 5, 2026 | By Waterbury RoundaboutWeekly Road Work reports are assembled with information from the Vermont Agency of Transportation on projects in the region, the Waterbury Public Works Department, and other local highway departments for projects in Waterbury and neighboring communities as necessary.
Motorists are reminded to drive with caution through work zones and to follow posted speed limits. Speeding fines are doubled in work areas along the interstate.
Waterbury

Moretown
A culvert replacement project on River Road in Moretown will result in a road closure and modified school bus routes expected through Oct. 7.
The project is part of the town’s FEMA-funded storm event recovery work. The box culvert installation will be done on River Road near the intersection with Hog Hollow Road. The closure began on Oct. 1 and is anticipated to go through Thursday, Oct. 8, weather permitting.
Harwood Unified Union School District notified families in the area that students taking Bus 7 during this project will be affected.
Morning route adjustments are:
7:43 a.m.: Stop at the intersection of River Road and Vermont Route 100B
7:56 a.m.: Stop at the intersection of River Road / Jones Brook Road / 3 Mile Bridge Road. Note: The section on Jones Brook will not be covered in the morning due to time constraints on making it to Crossett Brook Middle School and Harwood Union Middle/High School on time.
Afternoon adjustments are:
4 p.m.: Stop at the intersection of River Road / Route 100B
4:13 p.m.: Stop at the intersection of River Road / Jones Brook Road / 3 Mile Bridge Road. Note: The bus will take the Jones Brook high school students to their usual stops.
The district will send communication directly to families once the project is completed, the road is open for travel, and bus routes have been restored.
Stowe
The Town of Stowe has closed the Weeks Hill Road Bridge in Stowe, near the intersection of Mayo Farm Road, for construction of a new bridge. The closure is anticipated to remain in place through the end of November. A signed detour will be in place. Please plan accordingly and use an alternate route.
Interstate 89 | Richmond-Waterbury, southbound
The Vermont Agency of Transportation’s resurfacing project on Interstate 89 southbound between Exit 11 in Richmond and Exit 10 in Waterbury continues with paving and work on bridge joints in multiple locations.

Last week, crews continued paving and guardrail replacement. They worked on installing shoulder material and began work on the bridge joints.
Schedule includes possible ramp closures
The following is the anticipated work schedule for this week:
Night work is scheduled from Sunday, Oct. 4, through Thursday, Oct. 8, between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Crews will be replacing guardrails on the north end of the project. There may be Exit 11 southbound ramp closures for some of this guardrail work. If necessary, a signed detour will be in place.
Daytime work is also scheduled, Monday-Friday, Oct. 5-9, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for continued paving, weather permitting.
What to expect
Motorists can continue to expect one-lane travel between Exits 11 and 10 during all working hours. Drivers are urged to use both lanes to the merge points and to anticipate slow-moving travel and uneven lanes.
Reminders: Do not follow construction vehicles into the work zone. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and fines will be doubled.
Interstate 89 | Waterbury-Montpelier, southbound

The resurfacing project on Interstate 89 southbound between Waterbury Exit 10 and Montpelier Exit 8 is close to completion.
The anticipated work schedule this week begins on Tuesday, Oct. 6, and runs through Friday, Oct. 9, from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. A main focus for crews will be working on joints at the bridge approaches near Montpelier Exit 8.
Motorists should expect delays due to southbound lane closures during work hours from Mile Marker 54.6 (one mile north of Exit 8) to the Exit 8 interchange.
The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph; fines will be doubled.
