Road Work | Week of June 26-30

June 25, 2023

Road Work is compiled from reports from the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTRANS) and the Waterbury Public Works Department.

Waterbury

Armory Drive

The town Public Works Department continues work on Bridge #33 over Thatcher Brook on Armory Drive. This project will extend into the summer construction season. Residents of O'Hear Court and Armory Drive can expect one-lane traffic and possible delays. This week, the traffic pattern will switch over to directing vehicles to the other lane as the contractor hopes to begin working on the downstream bridge deck. Use caution in crossing the bridge because there will be a bump in the travel lane.

Howard Avenue

Crews will be doing the final touch-ups on the roadway in advance of road paving. No road closures expected this week, but be watchful for work activities along the road.

Little River Road

Work will begin late in the week to prepare for the eventual road resurfacing project. Paving is expected to commence on July 10. This work is weather dependent and subject to change based on contractor availability.

Bidwell Lane

A temporary speed bump will be installed just beyond the Stowe Street Café in an attempt to slow traffic in the area and aid in pedestrian safety.

Downtown

Throughout the downtown, crews will be painting some of the traffic markings including no-parking areas, parking space lines, crosswalks, speed bump markings and other traffic-safety markings. Some of this activity is daytime work and some will be done in the hours after midnight. This work is weather dependent and subject to change due to contractor availability.

Main Street

Work on the Main Street project is not yet complete. Travelers may encounter periods of alternating one-way traffic on Main Street/U.S. 2 starting midweek with some sidewalk closures as crews may be doing prep for new sidewalks and curbs where utility poles were recently removed and where repairs are needed.

Interstate 89 | Richmond

Travelers should expect shoulder closures on I-89 southbound as crews work on the bridge replacement project on U.S. 2 over the interstate. There also is the possibility of the northbound passing lane being closed and a traffic alert will be issued if this is implemented.

On U.S. Route 2, the bridge replacement over the interstate will also impact travel. Expect lane closures with traffic control present allowing for one lane of alternating traffic.

Richmond-Bolton

Rehabilitation of U.S. 2 continues with daytime and nighttime work in progress. Motorists can expect moderate interruptions with areas of one-way alternating traffic, Sunday through Thursday 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. between Lemroy Court and the I-89 interchange; also Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the project. Motorists can also expect to be traveling on some areas of gravel surface between Lemroy Court and Riverview Cemetery. Project officials remind motorists to please slow down in the work zones.

Montpelier

Resurfacing U.S. 2 and U.S. 302 continues. Motorists can expect intermittent alternating one-way traffic throughout the full length of the project as well as lane closures and alternating one-way traffic between the Middlesex-Montpelier town line to Bailey Avenue and at the Memorial Drive and Bailey Avenue intersection. Flaggers will be present to assist through the work zone.

Stowe

Route 100

The new signal at the intersection of Vermont Route 100 and West Hill Road is in operation as of June 23. continues. There will be some final wrap up items this week that could involve a lane closure and the use of flaggers.

Route 108/Mountain Road

  • Road will be closed just west of its intersection with Weeks Hill Road beginning Tuesday, June 27, at 7 a.m. for a culvert replacement. Traffic will be directed along a local route using Weeks Hill Road and Cape Cod Road. VT 108 will then reopen by 6 p.m. on June 29.

  • Also, along Vermont Route 108 in “The Notch” between Stowe and Cambridge, a parking and picnic area improvement project is underway. Motorists may encounter periods of one-way alternating traffic on this route as crews work in various locations. Remember, no tractor-trailers are allowed at all times.

Special note: Travel to Canada | I-89 Highgate Springs

Travelers to Quebec are advised that Route 133 on the Canadian side of the border is closed between Champlain Road in Saint-Armand and Morgan Road in Pike River until approximately July 15 for the construction of an overpass.

A local detour route is in place for motorists that need to travel to/through communities on the Route 133 route. Oversize and overweight vehicles may NOT use the detour and are strongly advised to seek alternate routes, use other points of entry, and avoid restricted routes.
