Road Work | Week of July 3-7

July 2, 2023 | By Waterbury Roundabout

Update: Howard Avenue in Waterbury Center will be closed on Friday, July 7, from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for paving. Please find alternate routes.

Road Work is compiled from reports from the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTRANS) and the Waterbury Public Works Department.

This week, most crews will not be working on Monday and Tuesday due to the Independence Day holiday.

Waterbury

Main Street: Starting on Wednesday, July 5, crews are scheduled to set granite curb and prep for new sidewalk sections to be installed where utility poles were removed recently. This will result in some sidewalk closures on the north side of Main Street and some alternating one-way traffic using flaggers.

Armory Drive: Work on the bridge continues with recently poured concrete needing to cure this week, according to Public Works Director Bill Woodruff. Crews may be back later in the week. Residents of O'Hear Court and Armory Drive may expect one-lane traffic and possible delays when workers are on site.

Blush Hill Road: After paving last week, some detail work will be done later this week such as finishing driveway entries along the newly paved stretch between Lonesome Trail and Blush Hill Estates.

Howard Avenue: Preparations for paving expected next week are anticipated later in the week. Be watchful for work activities along the road.

Little River Road: Work will likely be underway late this week in preparation for paving to begin on July 10 in the stretch closest to the U.S. Route 2 intersection. This work is weather dependent and subject to change based on contractor availability.

Interstate 89 | Richmond

Travelers should expect shoulder closures on I-89 southbound as crews work on the bridge replacement project on U.S. 2 over the interstate. There also is the possibility of the northbound passing lane being closed and a traffic alert will be issued if this is implemented.

On U.S. Route 2, the bridge replacement over the interstate will also impact travel there. Expect lane closures with traffic control present allowing for one lane of alternating travel.

Richmond-Bolton

Rehabilitation of U.S. 2 continues with daytime and nighttime work in progress. Motorists can expect moderate interruptions with areas of one-way alternating traffic, Wednesday and Thursday 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. between Millet Street and the I-89 interchange; also Wednesday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. between Locust Knoll Road and Lemroy Court. Motorists can also expect to be traveling on some areas of gravel surface between Millet Street and Riverview Cemetery. Project officials remind motorists to please slow down in the work zones.

Montpelier

Resurfacing U.S. 2 and U.S. 302 continues. Motorists can expect intermittent alternating one-way traffic throughout the full length of the project as well as lane closures and alternating one-way traffic between the Middlesex-Montpelier town line to Bailey Avenue and at the Memorial Drive and Bailey Avenue intersection. Flaggers will be present to assist through the work zone.

Stowe

Route 100: At the intersection of Vermont Route 100 and West Hill Road, there are a few items for the contractor to do to finish up at the construction site. No significant delays are expected for traffic.

Route 108/Mountain Road: Along Vermont Route 108 in “The Notch” between Stowe and Cambridge, a parking and picnic area improvement project is underway. Motorists may encounter periods of one-way alternating traffic on this route as crews work in various locations. Remember, no tractor-trailers are allowed at all times.

Special note: Travel to Canada | I-89 Highgate Springs

Travelers to Quebec are advised that Route 133 on the Canadian side of the border is closed between Champlain Road in Saint-Armand and Morgan Road in Pike River until approximately July 15 for the construction of an overpass.

A local detour route is in place for motorists that need to travel to/through communities on the Route 133 route. Oversize and overweight vehicles may NOT use the detour and are strongly advised to seek alternate routes, use other points of entry, and avoid restricted routes.
