Waterbury road work update

Work isn’t technically on a road this week on Vermont Route 100 but it’s affecting traffic. Town crews are installing a sewer line between the Colby Mansion just north of Shaw’s to Mad River Cabinet Design near the intersection with Laurel Lane.

Public Works Director Bill Woodruff said work needs to start before the morning traffic rush in order for the crews to put in a full day and complete the work in as few days as possible. The narrow shoulder necessitates alternating one-lane traffic that’s created a bottleneck and delays Monday and Tuesday. Expect one more day with that pattern in place on Wednesday, Woodruff said.

Once the project progresses past the Laurel Lane intersection, workers can use the parking lot at the cabinet shop and allow for two-way traffic to resume.

Woodruff asks the public for patience for the relatively short project. Allow for extra time, use Perry Hill Road/Lincoln Street to Stowe Street as a detour if possible. Woodruff said the schedule was set to work in the tight stretch to disrupt traffic for as few days as possible while keeping workers safe.

Another short disruption will happen in the next week or so to pave the area disturbed by this installation.

Elsewhere, projects are either winding down or complete for the season:

  • Construction on Reservoir Road at the entrance to the Waterbury Center Day Use State Park has wrapped up. The park is closed for the season but the project to rebuild the road and upgrade the guardrail near the intersection with Vermont Route 100 is complete.

  • Time appears to have run out for line-striping on Stowe Street. Woodruff said a state crew was to paint the center line by mid-October but that has not happened. Mild weather this week might allow for them to get that done, he said. If not, that will happen in the spring. Fog lines along the shoulders will be painted by the town Highway Department, he said.

  • Work on Randall Street and Park Row sidewalk replacement has ended for the season. Woodruff said about 600 feet is left to complete in the spring.

  • Construction is wrapping up near the end of Blush Hill Road on the new parking lot just above the boat launch. That state project will accommodate parking of vehicles with trailers. Flaggers may be present during the remaining time the site is active on weekdays. See a full story about this project in the News section.
