Traffic was disrupted in Waterbury for several hours Thursday when a fully loaded commercial vehicle hauling trash overturned coming off Interstate 89 at Exit 10.

Bobby Limlaw, 51, of Lowell was hauling for Perras Brothers of Morrisville when the 1998 Freightliner tractor-trailer overturned as he attempted to turn left from the southbound offramp onto Vermont Route 100 at about 1:45 p.m., according to the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles. Waterbury Ambulance transported him to the hospital for minor injuries, the DMV said.

The section of Vermont Route 100 northbound between the roundabout and the I-89 northbound offramp was closed to traffic while a variety of personnel worked at the scene of the toppled rig. Exit 10’s southbound offramp also was shut down for several hours to allow for the removal of the rig and cleaning up the trash spill, according to the DMV. Vermont State Police and Waterbury Fire Department assisted at the scene.

During the incident, traffic was rerouted to U.S. 2 from the interstate at Richmond and motorists in town turned to Main and Stowe streets to avoid the closed section of Rt. 100. Just north of the crash site, additional congestion slowed traffic further from about 5:30 p.m. when a southbound tour bus got hung up attempting to turn onto Blush Hill Road.

By 7 p.m., the I-89 interchange and Rt. 100 were fully cleared from both incidents and traffic was back to normal.

Anyone with information about the tractor-trailer crash is asked to call the DMV Enforcement Division at 802-828-2078.
