Plans are coming together to salute Carla Lawrence and Bill Shepeluk at an Open House on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Steele Room at the municipal offices.

The Waterbury Select Board and Commissioners of the Edward Farrar Utility District invite the community to stop in for light refreshments and to visit with the guests of honor.

Municipal Manager Bill Shepeluk will still have several weeks left before he retires at the end of the year. Shelpeluk has surpassed 34 years in the town’s top management post, which he has held since March 1988.

Carla Lawrence at the end of August stepped down as Town Clerk after more than 19 years in that elected position. She continues to work part-time during the transition with Karen Petrovic who has been appointed to the post to serve through March Town Meeting Day 2023.

The Open House will happen at the end of what is to be the first week on staff for Shepeluk’s successor. The Select Board recently named Tom Leitz as the town’s next manager. Leitz is to start Oct. 31 in the role of deputy town manager until the end of December when Shepeluk steps down. Leitz comes to the Waterbury job having served as Director of Administration for the City of St. Albans for the past eight years.

The schedule for the open house lists time for remarks at 2:30 p.m. with Petrovic and EFUD Board Chair Skip Flanders heading up the organizing effort.
