Main Street Construction Update | July 30 - Aug. 7

Construction activities are ongoing in all segments along Main Street and side roads. Flaggers and pedestrian crossers are present throughout. Expect traffic delays and one-way alternating traffic.

Routes 2, 100 and the roundabout

New signs and pavement are planned for the roundabout and nearby section of Routes 2 and 100 in the next few weeks.

First, construction signs will be replaced with permanent signs. Installation is scheduled this week starting Monday from Exit 10 south to the construction zone on Main Street at the railroad bridge and west for a short stretch on U.S. Route 2. Project officials say this work should not impact traffic.

Later, an additional layer of asphalt will be done in same areas. The paving date has not been set yet but it will involve night work.

Between Dac Rowe Park and Stowe Street

Hydrant connections and water and sewer line service installations continue in this segment. Residents and businesses should have water on site for drinking, washing, and flushing while work is ongoing in this area. Expect traffic delays. Driveways will have temporary closures as excavation is done. Temporary parking is available at the municipal offices and library.

Between Stowe Street and Park Street

Conduit installation will continue on Elm Street and begin on Bank Hill by McGillicuddy’s beginning Aug. 3.  Conduit installation and crossings also will take place between Stowe Street and Foundry Street on the even numbered side of South Main Street. Curbing prep and installation along South Main Street will be done between Park Street and Foundry Street. Beginning Aug. 3, driveway and sidewalk prep will take place in this same area.

From Park Row to the end of the project

Residential walkways will have concrete poured or paving done depending on what was there prior to construction.
