Road Work | Week of July 10-14

July 8, 2023

Road Work is compiled from reports from the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTRANS) and the Waterbury Public Works Department.

Waterbury

Armory Drive: Work on the bridge is progressing with crews expected back on site this week to install membrane and do paving on Wednesday. Residents of O'Hear Court and Armory Drive may experience one-lane traffic and possible delays when workers are present.

Howard Avenue: Base-layer paving will be completed after getting cut short by rain on Friday. The final layer will be paved later in the season.

Little River Road: Paving is anticipated to begin, Monday, July 10, in the residential stretch closest to the U.S. Route 2 intersection. This work is weather dependent. First stages involve prep and base-layer pavement.

Main Street: Work to repair and replace curbing and sidewalk sections where utility poles were removed recently is weather dependent. No work was announced for this week as of Friday, July 7. Given delays in the pole removal, the timeline for completion of the sidewalk and curb work has been extended to late August/early September according to Ken Upmal, project manager with the Vermont Agency of Transportation.

Rotarian Place: Line striping to mark parking spots will be done along the back side of Rusty Parker Park near the Waterbury Train Station.

Stowe Street: Preparations will start for sidewalk work on Stowe Street on the west side of the street from Swasey Court north to just beyond 56 Stowe Street.

Townwide: Motorists should be alert for crews doing roadside mowing throughout the town.

Railroad Street closure: Railroad Street will be closed to through-traffic for Waterbury Arts Fest on Friday and Saturday, July 14-15. This post will be updated with specific times closer to those dates.

Interstate 89 | Richmond

Travelers should expect shoulder closures on I-89 southbound as crews work on the bridge replacement project on U.S. 2 over the interstate. There also is the possibility of the northbound passing lane being closed and a traffic alert will be issued if this is implemented.

On U.S. Route 2, the bridge replacement over the interstate will also impact travel there. Expect lane closures with traffic control present allowing for one lane of alternating travel.

Richmond-Bolton

Rehabilitation of U.S. 2 continues with nighttime work in progress. Motorists can expect delays within work areas due to one-way alternating traffic, Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Motorists can also expect to be traveling on some areas of gravel surface between Millet Street and the I-89 interchange. Project officials remind motorists to please slow down in the work zones.

Montpelier

Resurfacing U.S. 2 and U.S. 302 continues. Motorists can expect lane closures and alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 2 near the Middlesex/Montpelier town line and on Graves Street. Flaggers will be present to assist through the work zone.

Stowe

Route 100: At the intersection of Vermont Route 100 and West Hill Road, there are a few items for the contractor to do to finish up at the construction site. No significant traffic delays are expected.

Route 108/Mountain Road: Along Vermont Route 108 in “The Notch” between Stowe and Cambridge, a parking and picnic area improvement project is underway. Motorists may encounter periods of one-way alternating traffic on this route as crews work in various locations. Remember, tractor-trailers are not allowed at any time through the Notch.

Special note: Travel to Canada | I-89 Highgate Springs

Travelers to Quebec are advised that Route 133 on the Canadian side of the border is closed between Champlain Road in Saint-Armand and Morgan Road in Pike River until approximately July 15 for the construction of an overpass.

A local detour route is in place for motorists that need to travel to/through communities on the Route 133 route. Oversize and overweight vehicles may NOT use the detour and are strongly advised to seek alternate routes, use other points of entry, and avoid restricted routes.
