Darkness stretched through Waterbury village, parts of the town including the Interstate 89 interchange, and into Duxbury on Monday evening during a rainstorm with high winds that knocked out power around Vermont.

Green Mountain Power crews worked through the night to restore service to more than 11,000 customers statewide, according to GMP spokeswoman Kristin Kelly.

She said the Waterbury outage affected some 900 customers after wind toppled a tree onto a line on Main Street. It happened around 7:30 p.m. and the outage lasted two and a half hours.
