Flood photos | July 10-11

The morning after: A birds eye view over Waterbury
If it was a movie plot, viewers might have a hard time suspending disbelief. But July 10, 2024 turned out to be an eerie replay of July 10, 2023 as the remnants of Hurricane Beryl careened toward New England and collided with Canadian cold air to deliver what was at times a violent deluge of windswept rain.
The downpours persisted through the afternoon and evening creating powerful streams that carved new paths down Vermont’s hillsides and mountain roads, through many neighborhoods of Central Vermont including Waterbury, Duxbury and our neighboring towns. Rivers filled quickly and spilled out of their banks. The work is underway now to clean up the aftermath.
Below are photos with some scenes during the storm and many the morning and day after including shots that Roundabout photographer Gordon Miller from above with his drone.
