More than two months into his battle with COVID-19, WDEV Radio’s Ken Squier continues to recover at a rehabilitation center in Berlin.
The Waterbury-based AM and FM stations shared a message from Squier’s daughter Ashley on its Facebook page on Jan. 30 in which she updates friends and fans of the longtime broadcaster.
“We can add surviving COVID to the list of Dad's kickass accomplishments in life. I have no doubt that your prayers played a part in getting him through. Your cards have certainly been lifting his spirits during his recovery,” the younger Squier wrote.
Ken Squier on Nov. 12 announced his diagnosis with the coronavirus and shortly after was hospitalized. The 85-year-old was later moved to the Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing facility near Central Vermont Medical Center to continue his recovery.
“Though Dad is the winner of this battle, the virus left its marks, especially on his ability to walk. He is mostly wheelchair-bound,” his daughter explained.
She praised the care her father is receiving and said the family is preparing for his return by making some structural changes to his home in Stowe. “Our family is grateful beyond words for your outpouring of care, and we hope to get Dad and his new wheels (wheelchair races, anyone?) out to racetracks sometime in the coming months!” she said, referring of course to the elder Squier’s passion for car racing.
She closed with a wish for others in a similar situation: “Our continued prayers to all who are battling coronavirus, and to their families.”
Although Squier is not able to receive visitors at the rehab facility, he is getting mail sent along from staff at WDEV. Cards and letters can be dropped off at the station on Stowe Street in Waterbury or sent by mail to Ken Squier ℅ WDEV, 9 Stowe Street, Waterbury, VT 05676.
