Boil notice ends for Howard Ave. neighborhood after water line fix

UPDATE April 14: The boil-water notice ended Friday morning after water sample testing was done and results came back satisfactory. EFUD officials posted this update on the municipal website and delivered hard copies to customers: β€œAll water samples tested meet the State and Federal requirements and the water is safe for all public uses. Customers no longer need to boil their water for cooking or drinking.”

Water should be back on around 4 p.m. this afternoon in the Howard Avenue neighborhood where a water line leak led to service being turned off and the street closed to through traffic today.

Officials from the Edward Farrar Utility District have issued a boil notice asking the roughly 30 water customers in the neighborhood to boil water before using it or to use bottled water for cooking, drinking, making ice, washing dishes and brushing teeth until further notice.

Written notes were hand-delivered to residents this afternoon explaining that due to the break, there could be bacteria present. Water will be sampled and tested with the goal to have an all-clear by Friday, officials said.

The notice has been posted on the Waterbury municipal website homepage at waterburyvt.com. (or see below)

The affected properties are on Howard Avenue, Metayer Court, North Lakeview Terrrace and Lakeview Terrace.

Residents are directed to boil water and let it cool before using. Officials said they expect to have sampling completed within 72 hours to lift the order.

Woodruff said the leak was discovered late Tuesday night in a section along Howard Avenue and the brook beside the road. Water was turned off and Howard Avenue was closed to through traffic between Route 100 and the intersection with Guptil/Hollow roads during the day for crews to work in the area.
