The Vermont State Police announced that there will be an exercise of the Vermont Blue Alert System today between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. conducted by the Vermont Department of Public Safety.
The exercise will test the functionality of various components of Vermont’s Blue Alert system which is to be used when a police officer has been injured, killed or missing while on duty and the party responsible is at large and a potential danger to the public.
For this test event, the VT-Alert system will send messages to its thousands of subscribers, the Vermont Agency of Transportation message boards and Vermont Lottery signs and kiosks, etc. will display information about the exercise.
The Emergency Alert System will send test messages to TV and radio stations. However, the Wireless Emergency Alert will not be used, officials said.
Telephone alerts will only occur for those who have signed up for VT-Alert. Anyone who wishes to receive AMBER Alerts and Blue Alerts in the future, including the latest up-to-date information at the time of the alert, can register for a free account by going to the VT-Alert website or by signing up here.
