Much of last week’s weather-dependent road and sidewalk work got sidelined due to rain and crews are hoping to make progress this week, Waterbury Public Works Director Bill Woodruff says.

Look for J.A. McDonald workers on Main Street fixing the sidewalk sections where utility poles were removed earlier this summer. The curbing and concrete work will affect pedestrians mostly, but flaggers will be on site to direct traffic around the contractors and equipment.

Sidewalk construction on Stowe Street opposite Brookside Primary School should continue with a goal to be completed this week. School starts next Monday, Aug. 28. Other projects in progress:

  • Late-night line-striping for crosswalks and the roundabout

  • Road grading and roadside mowing throughout town

Crews are looking to move on to paving on Little River Road and putting down the top layer of asphalt on Howard Avenue next week, Woodruff said.

State projects

Below is information on state projects in region for this week.

Interstate 89 | Richmond

Replacement of Bridge #29 along U.S. 2 over I-89 continues. Travelers can expect lane closures with traffic control present allowing for one lane of alternating travel.

Below on the interstate, Monday through Friday both southbound and northbound passing lanes will be closed from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The interstate right shoulders remain closed within the vicinity of the bridge project area.

U.S. Rt. 2 | Richmond-Bolton

Rehabilitation of U.S. 2 continues with nighttime work in progress. Motorists can expect delays within work areas due to one-way alternating traffic at night and early morning, Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Motorists can also expect to be traveling on areas of gravel surface between Willis Farm Road and the I-89 interchange. Project officials remind motorists to please slow down in the work zones.

Montpelier

A resurfacing project is underway along U.S. 2 and U.S. 302. Motorists can expect lane closures and alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 302 from the Berlin town line to the roundabout with U.S. 2, and along U.S. 2 from the town lines with Middlesex to Berlin.

Stowe | Route 108-Mountain Road

Along Vermont Route 108 in “The Notch” between Stowe and Cambridge, an environmental restoration/parking and picnic area and stormwater improvement project is underway. Motorists may encounter periods of one-way alternating traffic on this route as crews work between the former Long Trail and Hell Brook North parking areas.
