Road Work | July 22 - 29

July 22, 2022

Starting Friday, July 22, paving crews from F.W. Whitcomb will be working on Stowe Street between the dry bridge and Lincoln Street to prepare the roadway for paving.

Motorists should avoid traveling on Stowe Street as there will be significant delays, explained Public Works Director Bill Woodruff. Residents will have access in and out of their driveways, but they may need to wait.

Woodruff said the top four inches of the existing pavement on the road surface will be removed. “That will take time,” he said.

The asphalt removal will likely take Friday and Monday with new paving happening soon after the scraping ends. Side streets – North Street, Hill Street and Swayze Court – already have been milled to prep for paving as well. Woodruff said new asphalt will be done on all of the streets in the project once the milling is complete. Paving and milling may occur simultaneously in different areas of the project.

Motorists are asked to stay alert when driving on Stowe Street given that structures such as drains and manholes will be higher than the road surface after milling.

During milling, crews will try to keep traffic moving along Stowe Street as they work, but there may be times when it will need to be closed in order for trucks and equipment to maneuver, Woodruff said.

The project is expected to extend into next week.

Waterbury Roundabout will post updates as work progresses.
