Vermont State Police say a Waterbury woman who drove the wrong way on Interstate 89 on Sunday afternoon had a suspended license and was impaired at the time of the incident.
Police said that shortly before 1 p.m., they received several 911 calls about a wrong-way vehicle headed north in the southbound lane of I-89 near mile marker 42 in Williamstown.
Troopers headed to the area also learned that the vehicle they were seeking had been involved in a crash near mile marker 45. Police said they found the other vehicle involved in that collision and no one was injured.
When they located the wrong-way vehicle, police identified the driver as 66-year-old Dawn Clements of Waterbury. A check with the Department of Motor Vehicles found CLements’ license to be criminally suspended. Also, police said, they conducted a field sobriety test and placed Clements under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police transported Clements to the Middlesex barracks where she was issued citations to appear in Orange County Superior Court Criminal Division to answer to charges of Gross Negligent Operation, Driving Under the Influence, and Driving with a Suspended License.
