For the first time in six years, the Washington-Chittenden legislative district has a competitive race for two seats in the Vermont House of Representatives.

The district covers Waterbury, Bolton, Huntington and Buel’s Gore.

Incumbent state Reps. Tom Stevens and Theresa Wood, both Democrats, are running for re-election along with two challengers: Brock Corderre, a Waterbury Republican and first-time candidate, and Waterbury Select Board member Chris Viens, running as an independent.

WDEV AM-FM and WaterburyRoundabout.org will host a forum with the candidates from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19. The forum will be held online using Zoom with multiple ways for community members to tune in.

It will be broadcast on WDEV FM 96.1 and AM 550 and on the radio station’s livestream online at wdevradio.com/stream. It also will be carried on Facebook Live with details posted to Facebook pages for both WDEV and Waterbury Roundabout

WDEV Morning News Service co-host Ric Cengeri and Waterbury Roundabout editor Lisa Scagliotti will pose questions to the candidates.

Community members may submit suggestions for questions for the candidates in the comment sections on the WDEV and Waterbury Roundabout Facebook posts about the forum. Readers and listeners may also email questions to either  waterburyroundabout@gmail.com or wdev@radiovermont.com. Putting “candidate question” in the email subject line would be helpful.

The online forum comes during an unusual 2020 election season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Given public health concerns and limitations on events and public gatherings, voters and candidates have had few opportunities to connect in person. Voters also have begun casting ballots early because every Vermont registered voter was mailed an absentee ballot to allow for early voting to reduce in-person voting on Election Day Nov. 3.
