UPDATE May 23: A hearing in Vermont Superior Court on Wednesday, May 22, was cut short without Satnam Singh entering a plea on the new charge. Lawyers for Singh and the state met with Judge John Pacht in private at the start of the hearing. When they returned, Pacht noted that neither side was prepared for a bail hearing at that time. Singh was to remain held with bail remaining set at $150,000.

A new hearing date of 10:30 a.m. on June 6 was set.

The driver of a tractor-trailer in the April 11 fatal crash on Vermont Route 100 near the Duxbury-Moretown town line now is facing another criminal charge.

Vermont State Police on Monday announced that the Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed an additional charge of involuntary manslaughter against Satnam Singh, 24, of Brampton, Ontario, in connection with the incident.

Singh was driving a tractor-trailer southbound on Route 100 when the rig crossed the opposite lane and into the path of an oncoming Subaru Crosstrek driven by 39-year-old Rosetta Weber of Waitsfield. Weber was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Singh last month pleaded not guilty to a charge of gross negligent operation with death resulting. He has been held at the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury since then for lack of bail set at $150,000.

Singh is scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Barre.

Meanwhile, a roadside memorial has been created with a wooden cross and flowers at the site of the crash, just south of Harwood Union Middle/High School. Online fundraisers to support Weber’s family including her husband and young daughter have raised more than $150,000 to date.
