Police arrest two in stolen firearm case

February 28, 2023 | By Lisa Scagliotti

State police have announced two arrests in the stolen firearm case at Parro’s Gun Shop in Waterbury recently.

On Tuesday, a man and woman from Morristown were arrested and cited to appear in court on Wednesday on charges of retail theft and being persons prohibited from possessing firearms, police said.

A press release Tuesday evening identified Michael Ulrich, 31, and Carlee Shields, 44, as the people in security footage seen handling two firearms that were stolen from the shop. The initial report to police on Feb. 22 said that one gun was stolen and that the incident occurred that day.

In the update on Tuesday, police said the theft actually took place several days earlier, on Saturday, Feb. 18, and not one but two firearms were missing from the store. “Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of an additional firearm stolen from Parro’s on the same day,” Trooper Ryan Riegler said in the press release.

One of the stolen firearms was identified as a tan FN 502 .22 caliber handgun with serial number LR028130 and a manufacturer’s list price of $559. Police did not say what the make and model of the second gun involved in the theft was.

Ulrich and Shields were taken to the Berlin state police barracks and released with citations to appear for a court hearing on Wednesday in Washington County Superior Court-Criminal Division.
