Road Work | Week of July 24-28

July 22, 2023

Road Work is compiled from reports from the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTRANS) and the Waterbury Public Works Department.

In Waterbury, flood-related damage repairs have been a priority. No additional report from Waterbury Public Works as of Friday, July 21, regarding work in the next few days.

In Duxbury, all roads are now open including the entire length of River Road.

This post will be updated should projects be added this week.

Waterbury

Armory Drive: The bridge project remains under construction. No major closings planned for this week.

Main Street: State project officials say that the contractor is scheduled to set granite curb and prep for new sidewalk this week, resulting in some sidewalk closures on the north side of Main Street and some alternating one-way traffic using flaggers.

State projects

The Vermont Agency of Transportation’s project update for this week is shorter than usual as some projects have been temporarily suspended due to flood damage, inaccessibility to the work site, or contractors repositioned to assist AOT with emergency response and repairs.

Below is information on state projects in the Waterbury area for this week.

Interstate 89 | Richmond

Replacement of Bridge #29 along U.S. 2 over I-89 continues. Travelers can expect lane closures with traffic control present allowing for one lane of alternating travel.

Below on the interstate, Monday through Friday both southbound and northbound high-speed lanes will be closed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the right shoulder remains closed within the vicinity of the Rt. 2 bridge reconstruction project area.

U.S. Rt. 2 | Richmond-Bolton

Rehabilitation of U.S. 2 continues with nighttime work in progress. Motorists can expect delays within work areas due to one-way alternating traffic at night and early morning, Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Motorists can also expect to be traveling on some areas of gravel surface between Millet Street and the I-89 interchange. Project officials remind motorists to please slow down in the work zones.

Montpelier

A resurfacing project is underway along U.S. 2 and U.S. 302. From Sunday, July 23, through Friday, July 28, during nighttime hours, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., motorists will see lane closures and alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 2 beginning at the eastern end of the project and continuing along U.S. 2 to the roundabout. Flaggers will be present to assist through the work zone.

Stowe

Route 108/Mountain Road: Along Vermont Route 108 in “The Notch” between Stowe and Cambridge, an environmental restoration/parking area and stormwater improvement project is underway. Motorists may encounter periods of one-way alternating traffic on this route as work continues in areas between the former Long Trail and Hell Brook North Parking Areas. Remember, tractor-trailers are not allowed at any time through the Notch.
