The Vermont Drug Task Force and Vermont State Police arrested a Massachusetts man in Waterbury Center on Thursday afternoon in an investigation involving cocaine and fentanyl trafficking.

Police said they arrested 37-year-old Rafael Santos, of Springfield, Massachusetts, at 1159 Ripley Road following what officials described as a weeks-long investigation into Santos’ distribution of cocaine in Washington County.

“The investigation consisted of multiple controlled purchases of cocaine base and fentanyl along with the execution of a search warrant at the time of his arrest that revealed significant quantities of cocaine, cocaine base, fentanyl, and other regulated drugs,” authorities said in a news release Thursday night.

They said Santos was taken into custody without incident and lodged at Northwestern Correctional Center for lack of $100,000 bail. Santos was scheduled to be arraigned in state criminal court in Barre today. He faces multiple charges of cocaine and fentanyl sale and trafficking.
