Vermont State Police this week put out a call to the public for help identifying a man they believe stole a credit card at a local trailhead and then used it to buy thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.

Trooper Keith Cote from the Williston barracks shared photos of the suspect taken from store security camera footage. The photos show the suspect, who has several distinctive tattoos, inside stores.

The credit card was stolen on Aug. 22 at the Camel's Hump hiking trailhead on the Huntington side of the mountain, police said.

The card was later used to purchase several thousand dollars of merchandise. “The credit card was used at several stores in the Burlington/South Burlington area including L.L. Bean and Outdoor Gear exchange,” Trooper Cote said. Other purchases were also made at several convenience stores, he added.

Anyone with information to help identify the suspect in the photos should contact state police in Williston at 878-7111.
