School district 2023-24 calendar set: students get Thanksgiving week off
March 29, 2023 | By Lisa Scagliotti Although this year’s last day of school has not been finalized yet, the school calendar for the 2023-24 school year has been posted with one new feature for families to note.
Students next year will have the entire Thanksgiving week off, Nov. 20-24. Superintendent Mike Leichliter said he moved a professional development day for staff from earlier in the month to that Monday, the only day teachers will be scheduled that week.
Leichliter shared the calendar with the school board at its March 22 meeting. It has since been posted at the bottom of the HUUSD.org website home page.
He noted that the final school day for the current academic year has not been finalized yet. He suggested he would have a recommendation on that to share with the school community before April break in case there were any additional weather-related days off to take into consideration. The scheduled final day for this school year is June 14 before any snow days are made up.
Harwood graduation is June 10 this year.
Some highlights in the 2023-24 calendar to note:
First student day of school is Monday, Aug. 28.
Days marked SD on the calendar note staff development days when there are no classes in session. Same for FC days that denote family conference days when there also are no classes.
There are no classes for the entire Thanksgiving week, Nov. 20-24. Teachers will have a professional development day on Nov. 20.
Holiday, February and April breaks are at their typical times.
Harwood 2024 graduation is June 8.
Last day of school is scheduled for June 12, 2024.
