The show now will still have four performances starting Friday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday showtimes are the same: 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. A Sunday matinee has been added for April 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets at the door: $10 for adults, $5 for students. ~ Molly Clark & Scott Weigand

Harwood Union High School presents its spring musical, “The Addams Family,” April 4-6.

For those unfamiliar with the storyline, Director Scott Weigand calls it “a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family.”

It’s based on the classic Addams Family story and characters with a plot that Weigand describes as “every father’s nightmare” as Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness has fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family, albeit someone her parents have never met.

“And if that isn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia,” Weigand explains. “Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.”

Wednesday is played by Harwood senior Annie McMillion. Sophomore Aiden Heath is cast as Gomez and junior Zoe Blackman as Morticia.

Junior Christopher Cummisky plays Lucas Bieneke; senior Ben Robinson is Mal Beineke; junior Ellie Buckingham is cast as Alice Bieneke.

Other Addams family members are senior Solvieg George as Grandma, junior Kai Haddock as Uncle Fester, and freshman Harmony Belle Devoe as Pugsly.

Rounding out the cast are 20 Harwood students in grades 9-12. Stage managers sophomore Grady Hagenbuch and freshman Cali Neville run things behind the scenes.

Weigand is joined by Music Director Molly Clark and Choreographer Mary Chudzik. The technical staff includes Kenrick Fisher on lighting design, Will Rush as set builder and Otis Neville as sound technician.

Thursday’s snowstorm has altered the performance schedule slightly: Showtimes now will be Friday-Sunday, April 5-7, with shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. A special matinee on Saturday, April 6, at 1:30 p.m. will be particularly family-friendly with an introduction to the orchestra and the opportunity for kids in the audience to come up on stage and meet the cast after the show. A Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. has been added as well.

Tickets at the door: $10 for adults, $5 for students.

“The Addams Family” is appropriate for all ages, and does include some light suggestive humor. Send any questions to harwoodtheatre@gmail.com.
