The Governor’s Institutes of Vermont has just opened applications for the 2023 residential summer programs with a March 31 deadline for high school students to apply.

The program is open to Vermont 9th, 10th, and 11th graders and this summer celebrates its 40th anniversary.

GIV Institutes take place on Vermont college campuses for one to two weeks giving students a chance to focus on a subject area and career-oriented topic such as Arts, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Science & Technology, Global Issues & Youth Action, Health & Medicine, Mathematical Sciences, and Technology & Design. This summer’s locations include the University of Vermont, Champlain College, Northern Vermont University, Castleton University, Landmark College, Vermont Technical College and Norwich University.

Students learn from industry professionals, participate in hands-on projects, and explore career options in an environment meant to be fun and social as attendees meet other students from around the state.

The GIV programs are designed to be affordable to all Vermont families with scholarships available that allow students to pay as little as $10 to attend. Last summer, the institutes enrolled 487 students from 72 high schools.

More information and the program application are online at giv.org. Email hello@giv.org with any questions.

The Governor’s Institutes of Vermont is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that welcomes business sponsorships and individual donations to fund scholarships. In 2022, more than 80% of the summer attendees needed financial assistance. More information on supporting the program is online at giv.org/support.
