The 31st Annual Waterbury Rotary sunflower growing contest known as The Hunt for Sunzilla, the Monster Sunflower, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. at Rusty Parker Memorial Park in conjunction with the final Waterbury Farmers Market of the season. 

It’s time to scour your cabinets, shelves, garages and sheds for those containers of unwanted cleaners and weed killers, old paint, batteries, and more to take to the Spring Household Hazardous Waste Collection at Crossett Brook Middle School on Saturday, May 18. 

Each year the Waterbury Rotary’s Not Quite Independence Day Committee honors a person, or persons, who have made a significant positive impact to our community by naming them as the Grand Marshal for the NQID parade.  

This Saturday’s Spring Composting Workshop in Waterbury kicks off a series of spring activities for people in the towns of the Mad River Resource Management Alliance – Fayston, Moretown, Waitsfield, Warren and Waterbury – to participate in. 

The Mad River Resource Management Alliance, the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation and Casella Resource Solutions are sponsoring a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, April 2, at Harwood Union High School.

The Oct. 2 Household Hazardous Waste Collection for the Mad River Resource Management Alliance has been canceled due to the lack of staff from the event contractors. 

Textile recycling is now operating in the Mad River Resource Management Alliance. 

It will take more than a pandemic to stop the annual Hunt for Sunzilla that Waterbury gardeners of all ages anticipate from the time the ground thaws in springtime.
