Mad River Valley Arts offers kids camps in July

Mad River Valley Arts is offering a summer arts program for kids for the first time this year.

Week-long classes for kids ages 8-14 are scheduled for July. Topics are Comics and Cartoons, July 10-14; Shibori Indigo and Ice Cube Dyeing, July 17-21; and Photo Mixed-Media July 24-28. 

In the comics class, students will work with instructor Niko Stonorov, visiting cartoonists and artist Sam Talbot-Kelly to create a short cartoon that will be featured in the center’s August gallery show. 

In the Shibori camp, students will work with instructor, artist and textile designer Miriam Jacobs to learn the art of indigo dyeing. 

The photo mixed-media class will use smartphones to learn a variety of photographic and video techniques led by instructor and professional photographer Barrie Fisher.

Classes are 1-4 p.m. Registration is $275 with scholarships available. Mad River Valley Arts is located at 5031 Main St., #2 Village Square, in Waitsfield, next to Tempest Bookstore.
