Revitalizing Waterbury this week announced that Bolton Valley artist Natasha Bogar was chosen as the winner of the 2024 Waterbury Arts Fest Commemorative Poster contest.

Bogar’s painting of a stormy scene on the Waterbury Reservoir will be used for the annual arts festival promotions this year. The image will be printed on the second annual Waterbury Arts Fest poster to be sold as a fundraiser for Revitalizing Waterbury at the event taking place Friday-Saturday, July 12-13.

Executive Director Karen Nevin said that six artists submitted entries to the contest. “Natasha’s vibrant and dramatic painting of the Waterbury Reservoir -- an iconic and beloved place in the Town of Waterbury -- was a clear favorite,” Nevin said.

In addition to the poster, the winning artist gets a prime spot at Arts Fest where they can meet the public and sign posters.

Bogar is an artist who loves to spend time in the woods during every season, finding scenes to recreate in her paintings. She enjoys chasing the seasonal light of Vermont in oils and watercolors.

“Oil is my medium of choice while in the studio. The intensity of the pigments and the fluidity of the paint lends itself to dramatic effects,” Bogar said. “I am thrilled to have won this competition and to have my painting of the Waterbury Reservoir featured on the Arts Fest Commemorative Poster.”

The posters will be sold for $20 during the Waterbury Arts Fest and at the RW office. The proceeds support the nonprofit community and economic development organization.

Waterbury Art Fest will take place on Friday evening, July 12, and all day on Saturday, July 13, along Railroad Street behind the Waterbury Train Station.

Friday night’s event is a block party with live music and dancing, food vendors and a beer garden. On Saturday, more than 100 art exhibitors and vendors set up along with live entertainment, family activities and a food court of food trucks.

Lead sponsors for Arts Fest are VSECU, Suburban Propane, Fairfield by Marriot and Ben & Jerry’s. More information is online at WaterburyArtsFest.com.
