Vermonters love dogs and the biggest canine event of the year —the Vermont Scenic Circuit Dog Show—takes place Thursday-Sunday, July 11-14.
Vermont's only American Kennel Club all-breed dog show will be held at the Tunbridge Fairgrounds, organized by the Woodstock Dog Club (Thursday and Friday) and the Green Mountain Dog Club (Saturday and Sunday). The Green Mountain Dog Club is based in Central Vermont. President and show chairman is Caulder Ripley, a lifelong resident of Duxbury.
There will be close to 1,000 dogs from across the country including many who just competed at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in May.
Entries for dogs are closed now but spectators are invited to attend any of the four days of shows with events including Conformation, Obedience, Rally and Junior Showmanship each day. Also each day is the National Owner Handler Series and the 4-6 month Puppy category.
Other highlights on the schedule include:
Scent work on Thursday
Best Puppy in Show named on Friday
Best Veteran in Show names on Saturday
Pee Wee Juniors (5-9 year-olds) on Sunday
Ice cream socials on Thursday and Friday
Saturday night BBQ with live music starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets online, $22.
Each day the show will have food vendors on site as well as vendors with dog supplies including scissors and blade sharpeners.
Admission is free for spectators. Attendees are asked to please leave pets at home. By AKC regulations, no unentered dogs are allowed on the grounds, according to organizers.
