Emerging Artist Award goes to Harwood student Poppy Woods

Across Roads Center for the Arts is proud to announce the winner of the 2023 Mitch Siegel Emerging Artist Award to Poppy Woods of Warren.
The award was presented on April 15 at the closing reception for the Leading Art Forward exhibition at the Grange Hall Cultural Center in Waterbury Center where student artwork made in the Harwood Unified Union School District was exhibited and celebrated.
Across Roads Center for the Arts is committed to supporting the creativity of young minds and bodies through its school scholarships program. We believe that the arts valued in education is a critical holistic component to the academic health of our future generations. We are dedicated to cultivating an appreciation and engagement in the arts to develop creative capacities for art, healthy expression and critical thinking, for stimulating our economies, as well as creating enjoyment and enriching the quality of life for all.
Since 2001, the Mitch Siegel Emerging Artist Award has been granted annually to a high school graduating senior pursuing the arts beyond Harwood Union. Students submit applications with examples of their work, an explanation of their artistic process and philosophy, their creative goals, and their plans to reach those goals.
The monetary prize of $1,000 is awarded for the student to buy the tools or instruction needed to support their creative objectives. Students endeavoring all kinds of arts are encouraged to apply including visual arts, performance arts, technical arts, and multi-media arts.
Currently a junior, Poppy in the 2023-24 academic year will be enrolled in her first year of college at Community College of Vermont. Across Roads Center for the Arts is delighted to support this astute and dedicated young photographer and media artist as she embarks on her next educational chapter.
