TURNmusic in Waterbury has postponed two performances of the TURNmusic Quartet planned for Jan. 18-19 due to illness, but plans to reschedule. Meanwhile, it has put out a unique call to composers of all ages and genres to contribute to a special creative project planned for March in Burlington.

Composers and music writers aged 18 and above are invited to submit original works for a reading session and performance by the NOW Ensemble on Saturday, March 15, at the Flynn Space in Burlington.

NOW Ensemble is described as a dynamic and forward-thinking collective of musicians dedicated to exploring and performing contemporary works and committed to new music, collaborating with emerging and established composers alike, and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in ensemble performance.

Music writers looking for a unique opportunity to have their work brought to life by a talented group of musicians are encouraged to apply. Six works will be selected by TURNmusic Director Anne Decker and a member of the NOW Ensemble.

The reading session will take place 2-4 p.m. on March 15 with the performance at 7 p.m. Composers will receive a recording of the reading.

The project is open to writers of all backgrounds and levels of experience and music in any genre or style. Submissions should be 2-5 minutes and able to be read in the moment. Instrumentation may involve any combination of flute, clarinet, electric guitar, acoustic double bass and piano.

Submission deadline for digital scores and parts is March 1 by email to turnmusicvt@gmail.com. There is no submission fee. Those selected will be asked to provide $150 and TURNmusic can assist with sponsors if the fee is a barrier. This includes admission for the evening performance.

For more information, contact Anne Decker at  turnmusicvt@gmail.com.
