At long last for Waterbury Center filmmaker George Woodard – the release of his second feature film, “The Farm Boy,” is set for Saturday, March 25, in Hyde Park.

The two screenings at the Hyde Park Opera House kick off a schedule of 11 showings in eight Vermont communities including Waterbury on Saturday-Sunday, April 1-2, at Brookside Primary School.

“The Farm Boy” is a World War II-era story of Calvin Dillard, a young man who drives a milk truck for his father. He meets a girl from a neighboring farm at a barn dance. Eventually they get married and the next day he heads for Europe, the Ardennes in Belgium, December 1944. His mechanical experience from growing up on a farm comes in handy during what will become known as The Battle of the Bulge.

What follows is a riveting adventure that will test his integrity.

Filmed in black and white using wide-angle lenses and conventional camera techniques of that time period, this is Woodard’s second feature film. His first full-length film, “The Summer of Walter Hacks,” was released in 2009.

Based on stories from his own father and mother, “The Farm Boy” was filmed mostly on Woodard’s dairy farm in Waterbury Center.

Following each screening, Woodard and producer Joan Brace O’Neal will discuss the project and answer questions from the audience.

Below is the screening schedule. Those dates marked with an asterisk* may have advance tickets available online. Tickets will be available at the door for all shows for $10. Doors open one hour before show time.
